We at Posh Foody Lifestyles have stumbled upon yet another authentic restaurant that caters to a Southern style of cooking! As we were walking past Sassafras heading to another joint, Mya - the lovely hostess, caught our attention and invited us in.

We are happy to say that we were nothing but thrilled for her enthusiasm and it was well accepted as the smells started hitting us in the face.

We were told that it was not only happy hour, but $5 burger and chicken sandwich night. That's all that needed to be said since Anthony is on the prowl for the best burger & chicken sandwich. He is the O.G. on the burger scene.

As we looked upon the menu we saw that all of the HH options were only $5!!! $5... WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAT?!!!

Greeted by our server, Alex and she was very informative when it comes to the uniqueness of Sassafras's menu. We won't need to say much since the pictures will say it all.

We ordered the following:

  • Hush puppies - w/ green goodness sauce and topped with pickled onion

  • Dirty rice arancini - w/ a romoulade

  • Fried green tomatoes - w/ homemade buttermilk ricotta, calabrian chili honey and black lime

  • Mac & Cheese - baked in a cast iron skillet

  • Burger - w/ american cheese, onion, pickle, shredded lettuce and fancy sauce

  • O.G. chicken sandwich - w/ local honey and pickles

All were only $5 each!

On top of it all, all drinks were HALF PRICE! I ordered a moscow mule which was done right. Even topped with a blood orange slice.

We were also surprised that the food was being brought out by Executive Chef, John Anthony and general manager, Kelsey! This is the norm where all of the staff regardless of title work together. After speaking to John Anthony and learning how they have a passion for southern cooking, he left and came back with their signature cheddar biscuits.

The biscuits were warm out of oven and was accompanied by house-made butter and onion jam.

Now, for the fun part. After reading all of that what do you think the total was?? Only $50...!!!!! That was it and when I say that it was enough food for 2-3 people it is not an exaggeration.

Posh Foody Lifestyles would like to say a huge thank you for an authentic southern cooking experience.

We will definitely be going back to do a more in depth look at Sassafras and all that make it happen!
